Yoel Romero delivered a violent finish over Alex Nicholson in the main event of Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA at Unrivaled Arena, stopping his opponent by strikes.
The 49-year-old took Nicholson down and landed blows that broke Nicholson's jaw, forcing a tap due to strikes. It marked Romero's second fight of the year and his third combat sports competition of 2024.
Known as "The Soldier of God," Romero entered this bout after back-to-back losses in other disciplines. He previously dropped a bareknuckle boxing decision to Vagab Vagabov in the main event of IBA Bare Knuckle 4 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and also lost a wrestling match under the RAF banner to Stephen Buchanan via technical fall.
Romero brings a decorated résumé to bareknuckle MMA. He is an Olympic silver medalist from the 2000 Sydney Games with numerous international wrestling medals, and he fought in the UFC from 2013 to 2020, challenging for the UFC middleweight title in 2020 in a unanimous decision loss to Israel Adesanya.
