Yaroslav Amosov Reveals Pre-Fight Eye Injury Before UFC 328 Win

Yaroslav Amosov walked out of UFC 328 in Newark with a second-round submission win over Joel Alvarez — and later revealed he did it after suffering a right eye injury in camp.

The former Bellator welterweight champion disclosed that the injury occurred in training two weeks before the fight, but he recovered in time to compete on May 9 and finish Alvarez. The victory moved Amosov to 2-0 in the UFC and pushed his professional record to 30-1, extending his current winning streak to three.

“There is no perfect camp,” Amosov said when discussing the setback. He added, “Every time I’m in camp something always happens to me, at least once. I don’t know, a minor cut, a minor injury, something that doesn’t stop me. But it just tells me that I need to adjust my schedule a bit and rest a day or two. That’s it, a couple of days ago I thought, ‘Damn, everything’s great, not a single injury.’ I was even scared. I thought, ‘What’s going on?’ Well, weird. Really weird.”

Amosov, who left Bellator before joining the UFC, has since racked up submission victories over Curtis Millender, Neil Magny and now Alvarez. Reflecting on his latest camp, he summed it up simply: “Everything’s in its place,” and, “That’s it. Anything can happen. I’m actually glad that nothing has changed. There has to be something.”
