UFC’s planned “UFC White House” event on the South Lawn in Washington, DC is facing both weather questions and a federal lawsuit less than a week before fight night.
The card is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET and is expected to go ahead regardless of conditions, with the exception of lightning. A federal lawsuit was filed earlier in the week attempting to halt the event, while forecasts have mentioned “a slight risk of pop-up thunderstorms.”
UFC executive Craig Borsari outlined how the promotion intends to handle any bad weather that rolls over the South Lawn. “I would say, light to maybe moderate rain, we will try to continue to move forward and conclude the event,” Borsari said. “Anything beyond that, whether it’s increased winds or high winds – we clearly need to shut down if lightning is within eight miles of the Octagon.”
In the buildup, betting odds have even been posted on whether the UFC Freedom 250 event will be postponed due to weather or other reasons, underscoring how closely the skies — and the courts — are being watched ahead of UFC White House.
