WBC women’s featherweight boxer Hannah Rapp has died after being struck by a car in an apparent road rage incident in Brazos County, Texas.
Authorities said Rapp was riding her bicycle on Saturday morning when a car stopped, reversed and backed over her. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police identified 31-year-old Charles Medina as the driver; he was arrested and charged with manslaughter and is being held at the Brazos County Detention Center.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman paid tribute to Rapp, saying, "The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken," and adding, "She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family. We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career."
Rapp, a native of Yorktown, Indiana, was a former track athlete at Purdue who later moved to College Station, Texas, and turned professional in 2024. She started her pro boxing career 8-0-1 before dropping a unanimous decision to Tiara Brown for the WBC women’s featherweight title in June at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando under Jake Paul’s MVPW banner.
Brown reflected on sharing the ring with Rapp, calling her "the best dance partner I have ever faced as a pro." She added, "When she asked for my autograph, it filled my heart because we were getting ready for war, yet she was still asking for my autograph," and, "It made me smile, we fought a GREAT fight for the fans from the 1st bell to the last! It was my honor to share the ring with her."
