Waldo Cortes-Acosta Confronts Josh Hokit Over ‘Deadbeat Father’ Callout

Waldo Cortes-Acosta says he personally confronted Josh Hokit after being called a "deadbeat father" during a post-fight callout at UFC 324.

Hokit made the callout in January after a TKO win over Denzel Freeman, targeting Cortes-Acosta by referencing his family. Cortes-Acosta, a father of nine, later ran into Hokit at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas and decided to address the comments face to face.

"Not only did he speak about me, but he spoke about my family, my kids, and a bunch more sh*t came out of his mouth," Cortes-Acosta said. "I ran into him at the (Meta) Apex, and I confronted him. I got on the ring, and I gave him a good look, and I told him, 'You're not worth anything. You better prepare yourself well because one day you and I are going to fight.'"

According to Cortes-Acosta, Hokit later approached him again. "I ran into him at the elevator later, and he said, 'I'm sorry. Please forgive me. That was only to make headlines so you and I can make money in a fight down the line,'" Cortes-Acosta recalled, adding, "'You're a f*cking idiot. You're a p*ssy,' I told him."

Cortes-Acosta now turns his focus to the biggest bout of his career to date, as he is scheduled to face Alexander Volkov on the main card of UFC 328 this Saturday at Prudential Center in Newark. He has also expressed interest in potentially fighting UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall if he defeats Volkov, noting, "If I beat Volkov, I might get the opportunity to fight Aspinall."
