UFC 328 at Prudential Center in Newark produced a wave of finishes – and a hefty round of post-fight bonuses.
Four fighters received $100,000 bonuses for their performances, while four more earned $25,000 checks for finishes that did not secure performance awards.
Flyweight champion Joshua Van scored a fifth-round knockout of Tatsuro Taira in the co-main event to retain his title, capping a bout in which he entered as the underdog. Jim Miller secured a first-round arm-triangle choke on Jared Gordon after the longest layoff of his career. Yaroslav Amosov submitted Joel Alvarez in the second round, and Baisangur Susurkaev won by rear-naked choke against Djorden Santos, who lost consciousness instead of tapping.
Grant Dawson added a dramatic submission, finishing Mateusz Rebecki with a rear-naked choke with 18 seconds left in the third round. Ateba Gautier delivered a second-round knockout of Ozzy Diaz with an overhand right for his fifth straight win and used his post-fight interview to call out former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
King Green continued his momentum with a rear-naked choke of Jeremy Stephens, getting the tap with 40 seconds left in the first round for his third straight win. Stephens missed weight by 4 pounds and must give 30 percent of his purse to Green, who also received $25,000 for his finish. The bout marked Stephens’ 20th loss in the UFC, the most in promotional history.
