Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane are being lined up for a heavyweight title-unification rematch after their first meeting at UFC 321 ended in controversy.
Aspinall, the UFC heavyweight champion, saw his title-unification bout with Gane at UFC 321 ruled a no contest due to an eye poke in Round 1. The champion subsequently underwent double eye surgery following the incident.
Gane has since captured interim heavyweight gold, defeating Alex Pereira by Round 2 TKO in an interim title fight at UFC Freedom 250. On the back of that win, he has expressed his desire to run it back with Aspinall in Paris, and the champion is open to the matchup.
Aspinall holds a 15-3 record in MMA and is 8-1 in the UFC, while Gane sits at 14-2 overall with an 11-2 mark in the promotion. Pereira, who fell to Gane in their interim title clash, has a 13-4 MMA record and is 10-3 in the UFC.
