Terence Crawford has pushed back on Conor McGregor’s recent claim that the pair once had a $200 million two-fight offer on the table.
McGregor previously said Turki Al-Sheikh offered him and Crawford $200 million for crossover bouts in boxing and MMA, and that Crawford turned it down. Crawford now insists that version of events is not accurate, saying, "That was a lie" and "It was cap. It wasn’t never no $200 million offer."
According to Crawford, he was only asked in general terms about a potential McGregor matchup. "They asked me would I do it, and I told them, ‘You ain’t about to be kicking on me, Conor.’ We were on FaceTime, and I did tell him that. But they didn’t say, ‘Hey, you got $200 million. You fight him in boxing and MMA.’ That was never the case. …" He added, "If it was said to me, I could say there was an offer, but if nothing is previewed to me, I can’t say what is what. He’s making up numbers, in my head."
Crawford said he would have entertained such a deal in the past, noting, "I would have done it. Why wouldn’t I?" but stressed his stance has changed. "I don’t need to do it [now]… I’m in a different space in my life right now where I don’t have to take those fights. Back then, I probably would have took it. I would have been like, ‘Alright, let’s do it.’"
Now, the former boxing champion is firm about his future: "I’m happily retired, and I don’t see myself coming back" and "Done done."
