The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board has issued a slate of medical suspensions to competitors from UFC 328, including headliners Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev, following this past Saturday night’s event in Newark, N.J.
Strickland, who reclaimed the UFC middleweight title in a split decision win over Chimaev, received an indefinite suspension pending orthopedist clearance of his left hand, along with a 45-day suspension and 30 days no contact. Chimaev was given a 45-day suspension with 30 days no contact.
Flyweight champion Joshua Van, who retained his title with a late fifth-round knockout of Tatsuro Taira, was handed an indefinite suspension pending orthopedist clearance of his left hand, plus 30 days with 21 days no contact. Taira received an indefinite suspension pending a CT head scan, and a 90-day suspension with 60 days no contact for the knockout.
In total, 11 fighters from UFC 328 were given indefinite suspensions. Among them, Jeremy Stephens must obtain orthopedist clearance of his groin, Ozzy Diaz needs ophthalmologist clearance of his right eye after a knockout that also triggered a 60-day suspension, and Jim Miller requires x-rays and orthopedist clearance of his left hand.
Other fighters receiving indefinite suspensions pending various scans or specialist clearances include Mateusz Rebecki, Grant Dawson, Marco Tulio, Baysangur Susurkaev, and Clayton Carpenter. Additional fixed-term suspensions were issued to Waldo Cortes-Acosta, Joaquin Buckley, Jared Gordon, Roman Kopylov, Diorden Dos Santos, and Jose Ochoa.
