Song Yadong made a major statement in the UFC Macau main event, submitting Deiveson Figueiredo by guillotine choke in the second round at Galaxy Arena and immediately turning his attention to a rematch with Petr Yan.
The finish made Song just the second fighter to submit Figueiredo in 34 professional bouts, capping a performance he said was built on a calm, measured approach. “My plan is stay calm and find the timing to knock him out, use my right hand,” Song said. “But also I did a lot of grappling in camp.”
After the win, Song didn’t hesitate to name the opponent he wants next. “I’d like to fight a rematch with Petr Yan,” he said.
Song and Yan first met at UFC 299 in March 2024, where Yan won by decision. That result halted a 5-1 surge from Song that had put him close to a title shot, while Yan entered that bout on a three-fight losing streak before later surging to a four-fight winning run and regaining the UFC bantamweight championship with a victory over Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 323 in December.
Reflecting on his latest performance, Song said, “I just proved myself again,” adding, “I’m top 5, I’m the best in the world. … I want to stay active. Fighting, also practice, I need to fight more and gain more experience.”
Petr Yan underwent back surgery at the start of 2026 and his return date is unclear.
