Severe thunderstorms are forecast to roll into Washington D.C. right as UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled to begin at the White House on Sunday night.
The seven-fight card, set to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of America and coinciding with President Donald Trump's 80th birthday, is slated for an 8 p.m. ET start — the same time the National Weather Service lists as the peak chance for storms in the area.
Forecasters list the main threat window for severe thunderstorms in Washington D.C. between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., with a 30% chance of damaging winds of at least 50 mph, a 2% chance for tornados and a 5% chance for hail. "The main threat window for severe thunderstorms to move through D.C. looks now to be between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.," Kyle Pallozzi said.
"Something will probably move through, and there could be a lull and then maybe there could be something that moves in again," Pallozzi added, noting, "But I'd say those finer scale details are a little bit more uncertain at this point."
Poor weather and lightning on Friday already forced the UFC to postpone a press conference by more than an hour, though Saturday’s ceremonial weigh-ins went ahead under clear skies without rain.
