Sean Strickland walked out of UFC 328 with the middleweight title and a laundry list of injuries, then received an indefinite medical suspension from the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board.
Competing at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., Strickland defeated Chimaev by split decision to become a two-time UFC middleweight champion. He now joins Israel Adesanya as a two-reign titleholder in the division.
After the fight, Strickland revealed he suffered a Type 2 AC separation, an extended Type 5 SLAP tear, and a partial rotator cuff tear or tendinosis. Summing up his situation, Strickland said, "Gonna have to walk this one off," as he faces an indefinite layoff.
Strickland, 35, left UFC 328 with a professional record of 31-7 in MMA and 18-7 in the UFC, while Chimaev exited the bout at 15-1 in MMA and 9-1 in the promotion.
