Rousey vs. Carano Headlines First-Ever MVP MMA Card in Los Angeles
17-05-26

Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano returned to action in the main event of the inaugural MVP MMA show on Saturday evening at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

The matchup served as a comeback bout for both Rousey, who last fought on Dec. 30, 2016 in a UFC bantamweight title fight, and Carano, who had not competed since her Strikeforce title fight on Aug. 15, 2009.

In the co-main event, Nate Diaz met Mike Perry. Diaz entered the event off a submission win in his last UFC appearance on Sept. 10, 2022, while Perry came in with a 6-0 run in BKFC and his most recent MMA bout dating back to April 10, 2021.

The card also delivered several notable finishes. Robelis Despaigne defeated Junior dos Santos via first-round KO at 2:59, while Jason Jackson scored a first-round KO of Jefferson Creighton just 22 seconds into the fight.

On the mat, Namo Fazil submitted Jake Babian with a D’arce choke in round 2 at 0:58, and Adriano Moraes earned a technical submission over Phumi Nkuta by rear-naked choke in round 3 at 4:59.

The judges were busy as well. David Mgoyan defeated Albert Morales via unanimous decision with scores of 29-28, 30-26, and 30-27. Aline Pereira edged Jade Masson-Wong by split decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 27-30, while Brandon Jenkins topped Chris Avila via split decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 28-29.
