Robert Griffin III has sharply criticized Conor McGregor’s brief UFC 329 comeback in Las Vegas and is calling for the UFC to refund fans who paid to watch the event.
McGregor’s return ended in just 69 seconds after he injured his knee while attempting jumping kicks in the main event. In response, Griffin III wants the UFC to refund every fan who spent money on UFC 329, though the event no longer sells traditional pay-per-view, meaning only ticket holders would be eligible under that stance.
The article also notes that Dana White and the UFC are not going to give up a reported $25 million generated by UFC 329.
Chael Sonnen weighed in on McGregor’s performance and future as a headliner, saying, “Conor threw a punch and he went down. He fell forward like a drunk guy. All the way to his knee. He hadn’t thrown punches at full speed in so long, he lost his own balance doing it. No part of me is teasing. That was the real moment. You cannot main event him. You cannot repackage and sell this story, nor would they be interested.”
Sonnen also referenced how the UFC has handled aging or worn fighters in the past, mentioning Chuck Liddell, Brock Lesnar, Anderson Silva, and BJ Penn, and stated, “If Dana takes a look at Conor, thinks he could get hurt, or you don’t belong here and you’re taking someone else’s spot — no.”
Griffin III, a retired NFL player now working for FOX Sports, has added his voice to growing questions around McGregor’s role and value at the top of UFC cards after UFC 329.
