Renato Canuto Hit With Six-Month Suspension After Failed Drug Test
24-06-26

Renato Canuto has been suspended six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission following a failed drug test tied to his most recent bout.

A urinalysis detected modafinil, a prohibited stimulant, in Canuto’s system around his March 13 TKO win over Dylan Aparis at Tuff-N-Uff 152. As a result, the commission has overturned the result, changing the bout to a no contest.

In addition to the suspension, Canuto must pay a $780 fine and $250 in prosecution fees.

Dylan Aparis had previously tested positive for prohibited testosterone metabolites and was suspended nine months and fined by the commission.

Before the sanction, Canuto was a Brazilian jiu-jitsu star and rising MMA fighter with a 3-0 record. He had announced the drug test flagging himself on Instagram and denied knowingly taking performance-enhancing substances. The decorated grappler owns tournament wins in IBJJF, KASAI, UAEJJF, and Marianas Open, and had recently been competing for UFC BJJ with a 1-1 record.
