RAF is exploring the possibility of booking a wrestling match between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier as the promotion builds toward a major anniversary card in Cleveland this August.
Lance Palmer, RAF’s head of talent relations, confirmed officials are interested in making the high-profile clash a reality but emphasized that it’s far from a done deal. “There’s a lot of moving parts that would have to be made right for it to happen,” Palmer said.
Palmer added that the bout ultimately hinges on the legends’ willingness to compete. “I think if they both really wanted to do it, we could make it happen,” he said, while also noting, “Physically for both of those guys, I just don’t see it happening but I mean we said that in the past about other things.”
Jones appeared at RAF 9 in May with Gable Steveson and, according to RAF, expressed interest in returning to wrestling. “We had Jon at our last event in Dallas, he was with Gable Steveson, which was awesome. Jon’s always been a great guy. Him and his brother, I’ve always been close with over the years,” Palmer said.
RAF’s Cleveland event, RAF 10, will also feature Palmer himself competing against Aaron Pico. As the promotion’s one-year anniversary approaches, Palmer says the door remains open for Jones vs. Cormier. “I think that’s just going to come down to circumstance if we did get Jones vs. Cormier… if all the stars align, I think we can make it happen but there’s just really not a timeline on it. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if they really want to do it.”
