Polyana Viana Taps to Rare Capsule Lock at UFC Fight Night 276
16-05-26

Polyana Viana suffered a highly unusual submission loss on Saturday, tapping to a rare capsule lock against Ardelean at UFC Fight Night 276.

The strawweight bout ended at 4:36 of Round 2 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, when torque on Viana’s own legs from a bottom body lock forced her to submit. The submission was identified as a "capsule lock," marking an uncommon finish inside the Octagon.

With the victory, Ardelean extended her winning streak to three and moved her MMA record to 12-7, including 3-2 in the UFC. She entered the fight off wins over Rayanne dos Santos and Montserrat Ruiz.

Viana, now 13-9 in MMA and 4-8 in the UFC, has lost four straight and has had only two fights since January 2024.
