Gable Steveson made a statement in his long-awaited UFC debut, stopping Elisha Ellison in the first round at UFC 329.
The Olympic gold medalist needed just 2:31 to finish the fight, repeatedly hurting Ellison with left hands before winning by strikes. With the victory, Steveson improved his professional record to 4-0 and moved to 1-0 inside the UFC.
“I’m honored to be here, thank you,” Steveson said after his dominant performance.
Reflecting on performing under the UFC lights, Steveson added, “It’s fun. It’s a big stage. Time will tell [what’s next for me], I’m a great athlete, I’m a great person. Time will tell that story.”
Steveson, a two-time NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, is coached in part by Jon Jones as he begins his UFC run.
