The Muhammad Ali Center has announced the first annual Day of Compassion, set to take place on Wednesday, June 3, in Louisville, Kentucky, and across the United States.
The initiative coincides with the 10th anniversary of Muhammad Ali's passing and will feature acts of compassion through partnerships with Metro United Way and other organizations. The Center is positioning the day as a nationwide moment to honor Ali’s legacy of kindness and empathy.
Early 2026 findings from the Muhammad Ali Index, a global study exploring compassion across communities, report a 60% year-over-year increase in stories about acts of kindness from 2024 to 2026. The same data shows self-compassion grew 111% over that period.
The Muhammad Ali Center, working with partners including the PwC Foundation, is exploring how compassion-based leadership can play a greater role in education and civic life. Lonnie Ali serves as Co-Founder, President and CEO of the Louisville-based Center.
Muhammad Ali, widely known as "The Greatest.", is remembered in the article for his focus on treating people with kindness and compassion, even as young people today are described as growing up amid polarization, online outrage, and social disconnection.
