Mikey Musumeci kept his grip on the UFC BJJ bantamweight title Thursday night, earning his third consecutive defense in the main event of UFC BJJ 8 at the Meta APEX.
Musumeci finished Kevin Dantzler by heel hook at the 2:15 mark inside the bowl, adding another quick submission to his title reign and closing the show in decisive fashion.
After the win, Musumeci turned his attention to UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan. “I expect to compete with Arman next, hopefully at the end of August,” Musumeci said, adding, “I just hope I don’t have any infections then but yeah, that should be really cool.”
Musumeci had previously stated on social media that he competed while dealing with “a very bad staph infection in my leg” and that he “barely could warmup how dead I was.”
Tsarukyan, meanwhile, remains busy on the mats. He is scheduled to wrestle Keelon Jimison on May 30 and Tony Ferguson on June 13 under the RAF banner, while reportedly serving as a backup option for the Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje UFC title fight.
In the co-main event of UFC BJJ 8, Cassia Moura also retained gold, tapping out Sabrina Gondim with a rear-naked choke to defend the bantamweight belt.
