Mike Perry is set to resume his MMA career this month and is already setting his sights on a future showdown with Conor McGregor, preferably back inside the UFC.

Perry will face Nate Diaz on May 16 in Inglewood, Calif., on MVP's inaugural MMA event, which will stream live on Netflix. The former UFC fighter, who moved into bareknuckle boxing, believes this return to MMA can be a springboard back to the Octagon.

"I work really hard, and I'm actually really freaking tough and good and strong, and I'm good at fighting. So I always believed that I would be doing something – or, I still believe that the return to the UFC is coming. Other guys have done it. I go out here and have success. I think there are some fights in the UFC that got my name on them," Perry said.

Perry has made it clear that McGregor is at the top of his wish list and wants that matchup at 170 pounds. "Then, yeah, absolutely: Me and him. UFC, hit me up. We'll make the McGregor fight. We'll fight at 170. I'm going to 170 for this one, and I'm going to shut his mouth."

Perry also referenced reports that McGregor has two fights remaining on his UFC contract and shared his view on their importance. "Well, that's the thing, right? I don't think UFC is letting go of those two Conor McGregor fights," he said, adding that he "would love for all those people to see me beat him."
