Mike Malott scored a third-round knockout over Gilbert Burns at UFC Winnipeg, finishing the veteran at 2:08 of the final frame in front of a Canadian crowd.

Malott, who is five years younger than the 39-year-old Burns, repeatedly found a home for his uppercut throughout the bout. The finishing sequence came as Malott landed more uppercuts, followed by a right hand and ground and pound to secure the stoppage.

Addressing the crowd after the win, Malott said, "I’ve got 18,000 new friends in here," and added, "Thank you so much."

Following the loss, Burns left his gloves in the cage and received chants from the crowd. The defeat marked his fifth consecutive loss. Burns has been fighting in the UFC since 2014.

Mike Malott is expected to take Gilbert Burns' No. 11 spot in the welterweight rankings.
