Matt Brown Rips Rousey vs. Carano: ‘Nothing Exciting About This’
21-04-26

Matt Brown is not buying the hype around the upcoming Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano matchup, openly questioning the appeal of the long-discussed showdown.

Rousey is scheduled to face Carano on May 16 on a card airing on Netflix, promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions in its first MMA event. The bout marks Rousey’s return to action for the first time in a decade, while Carano is set to compete for the first time in 17 years after last fighting in MMA in 2009.

Speaking on The Fighter vs. The Writer, Brown said, “It will do big numbers but who is actually going to care?” He added, “I think we’re going to feel the same thing with this fight. Feel like we wasted our time. Maybe not feel icky but we’re going to feel like we wasted our time.”

Brown also took aim at the buildup around Rousey and her recent rhetoric, saying, “Good old Ronda. Always giving us something to talk about,” and later adding, “She just cracks me up at this point. I think it’s kind of comical. I don’t know if anybody actually takes her seriously.”

Questioning Carano’s motivation after such a long layoff, Brown said, “She hasn’t fought in 17 years. Clearly she was done fighting and had no intention to fight again and then she gets a call and they offer her enough money where she’s like ‘OK, well, I’ll do that.’ It’s hard to believe it’s anything other than a paycheck.”

Summing up his stance on the matchup, Brown concluded, “You can cat fight that shit all you want, there’s nothing exciting about this.”
