Mateusz Gamrot Chokes Out Esteban Ribovics, Calls for Top Names Next

Mateusz Gamrot bounced back in a big way at UFC 327, submitting Esteban Ribovics with an arm-triangle choke late in the second round in Miami.

The lightweight prelims matchup at the Kaseya Center saw Gamrot return to the win column after a short-notice headliner in Brazil, where he suffered a submission loss to Charles Oliveira, the first opponent to finish him.

After dispatching Ribovics, Gamrot turned his attention to bigger names in the division. “I know it's weird, but I understand this position a little,” he said, before making his case for a step up. “… I understand there's politics, but right now, I deserve guys from the top. Maybe BSD, maybe Paddy, maybe Arman again – it doesn't matter who. I want to fight. I want to prove I'm the best in the world. Only full camp, and I'm ready to rock and roll”.

Gamrot also floated a potential clash with Diego Lopes, who is booked to fight Steve Garcia and has been linked to a possible move to lightweight. “For sure, this is a fun fight (against Lopes) – very entertaining for the fans. I know he has a fight booked at the White House (against Steve Garcia), but I heard he wants to move to the lightweight division. … I can wait for him. I'm patient. I'm in no rush. Maybe the end of the year, I can compete with this guy. He's good everywhere – I respect him for sure.”
