Kody Steele Eyes Redemption in Perth, Calls UFC Trip ‘Kind of a Struggle’

Kody Steele is set for his second UFC appearance when he faces Dom Mar Fan at UFC Fight Night 275 on Saturday at RAC Arena in Perth.

Steele enters the bout with a 7-1 professional MMA record and 0-1 in the UFC, while Mar Fan brings a 9-2 professional mark into what will be his promotional debut. Steele is coming off a UFC debut loss to Zhu Rong in Sydney in February 2025.

Traveling to Australia again has brought financial and logistical frustrations for Steele, who said, "If you get there early, like for me, getting somewhere like Perth is kind of a struggle," and added, "I need to get there a little early so I can adjust. But the UFC won't cover that stay. So it's kind of a pain in the ass to go all the way over there to do it. It sucks. We're going into the cage, risking our health, going crazy. The least they can do is pay for our coaches and staying and stuff. But I guess we're not there yet."

Reflecting on his debut, Steele admitted, "My last fight, to be honest, I wasn't gung-ho on it," and described his mindset as, "I'm going to go out there and show my balls, show how tough I am, and it's going to be killed or be killed." Looking ahead to Perth, he said, "But this fight is going to be different, now that I'm in the UFC... This time, now, when I go into my fights, it's just time to win. It's time to compete. That's what I think people can see from me."
