Lerryan Douglas is riding the momentum of a knockout debut and now awaits his second UFC assignment after a blistering start to his run with the promotion.
Douglas, 30, holds a 14-5 professional record and is 1-0 in the UFC after knocking out Julian Erosa about a month before the time of the article. The finish continued a violent streak, as Douglas has knocked out his last six opponents in his most recent half-dozen fights, including a stoppage win over Cam Teague on Dana White's Contender Series.
Despite his power-heavy run, Douglas says he is leaving the next move to the UFC. "The mindset I go through for fights sounds kind of weird," Douglas said. "I think like a crazy hitman. You send me the contract. You want me to get that guy, and I'll get that guy – anybody. I'm not going to be a guy who's picking a fight. I'm just going to get a contract, and your name, and I'll go get you."
Douglas prefers not to call out opponents and instead trusts the promotion and his team, which includes coach and manager Cub Swanson. "Whatever the UFC and the matchmakers think is better for me," he said. "I just want to do my job. I like to have a mission to do. I don't try to play my own career. They know what they're doing. I just did my first fight in the UFC. Once I get a little further, I can see where I'm at and I can ask for something for a fight."
