Khamzat Chimaev will defend his UFC middleweight title for the first time when he meets former champion Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 328.
The five-round championship bout headlines the card on Saturday, May 9, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. It marks Chimaev’s first defense since capturing the 185-pound belt at UFC 319 last August.
Strickland enters UFC 328 looking to reclaim the middleweight title for the second time. He secured his shot at Chimaev by earning a third-round TKO win over Anthony Hernandez in February.
The buildup to the fight has featured trash talk and threats of violence between Chimaev and Strickland. It was previously believed Nassourdine Imavov would receive the first title shot at Chimaev.
UFC 328 features a 13-fight lineup, with early prelims starting at 5 p.m. ET, prelims at 7 p.m. ET, and the main card kicking off at 9 p.m. ET.
