Justin Gaethje is set to meet Ilia Topuria in a lightweight title unification bout headlining UFC Freedom 250 this Sunday at the White House in Washington.
Gaethje, a two-time UFC interim lightweight champion, punched his ticket to the unification clash by defeating Paddy Pimblett for the interim lightweight title at UFC 324. He entered that fight as an underdog before securing his second interim belt.
Topuria enters UFC Freedom 250 as the reigning UFC lightweight champion. He holds a 17-0 MMA record and a 9-0 UFC record, while Gaethje brings a 27-5 MMA record and a 10-5 UFC slate into the main event.
When Gaethje received his interim title shot against Pimblett, Arman Tsarukyan was the No. 1 contender, but it was Gaethje who capitalized and now moves on to the unification bout with Topuria.
