Former UFC fighter B.J. Penn has been ruled mentally fit to stand trial in his ongoing domestic violence case in Hawaii.

A Hawaii judge made the determination after reviewing mental examination reports, clearing the way for Penn to face multiple charges, including assault and violating a restraining order obtained by his mother, Lorraine Shin.

Penn was ordered to undergo a mental health examination in October. He now has several upcoming court dates, with the next hearing scheduled for June 2.

According to case information, Penn was allegedly arrested in May after shoving his mother into a vehicle and stealing her mail. He was then arrested two times in June and another time in September for violating a protective order.

Penn has been arrested five times since Memorial Day weekend in 2025, including an initial May arrest on family abuse charges involving his mother. Some family members have stated in court that they believe he might be suffering from Capgras syndrome.
