Joshua Van’s first UFC flyweight title defense is set, as he will face Tatsuro Taira at UFC 328 in May after the bout was postponed from its original April date.
Van, described as the first Myanmar-born champion in UFC history, captured the 125-pound belt with an injury TKO over Alexandre Pantoja just 26 seconds into their fight at UFC 323 in December.
Despite holding the title and riding a six-fight winning streak, Van enters the matchup as the betting underdog. Betway lists him at +162, while Taira is installed as a -200 favorite following the date shift.
Van owns a 16-2 professional record and is 9-1 in the UFC, including a win over Brandon Royval in what was called the 2025 Fight of the Year at UFC 317.
Taira brings an 18-1 MMA record and an 8-1 UFC mark into UFC 328 and is ranked No. 5 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie flyweight rankings.
