Josh Hokit turned a statement win into a firestorm of controversy after stopping Derrick Lewis by second-round TKO in their UFC heavyweight bout.
Hokit, who used an onslaught of combinations to finish Lewis in under two full rounds, improved his record to 10-0 with the victory. He had already drawn boos from the crowd after flipping off Lewis before the fight.
In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Hokit opened with, “I’m man with the plan, the beast that’s ready to feast. You know what, (expletive) this speech.” He went on to shout out Trump and acknowledge his “lord and savior.”
Hokit then called out Alex Pereira, saying, “Now listen,Alex Pereira, I’m going to chama on your mama,” before escalating things further with, “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?” His remarks about Michelle Obama quickly sparked a wave of reactions on social media.
UFC president Dana White told TIME Magazine he was against Hokit's comments but noted he has not sanctioned fighters for similar remarks in the past.
