Jorge Masvidal Rips Into Colby Covington After Retirement Reveal

Jorge Masvidal has unloaded on longtime rival Colby Covington after news that the former UFC interim welterweight champion informed the promotion in May of his decision to retire from MMA competition.

Masvidal and Covington went from best friends to bitter enemies, a feud that culminated in a lopsided unanimous decision win for Covington at UFC 272, followed by a lawsuit filed by Covington and Masvidal’s arrest for attacking him outside a restaurant in Miami.

Speaking on Covington’s legacy, Masvidal did not hold back. “Colby's legacy? Cop calling,” he said, before adding, “Accusing people of steroids while he's taking steroids. Just a projecting, gaslighting hoe. He always talked about other fighters to make it to the top or even get his name mentioned, with this whole country thing, just not to get fired from a job.”

Masvidal further criticized Covington’s fighting style and how he believes fans will view him. “I think people are going to remember that lameness. Then when he actually fought, you saw why. Because he would put all his work and effort into just holding your leg as hard as he could. Not trying to advance to finish you. Not trying to hit you with elbows. Then if it was on the feet, pillow hands, not even trying to fight. I think his legacy is going to be something forgotten pretty soon.”

While retired from MMA, Covington is currently focused on Real American Freestyle wrestling, where he holds a 3-0 record and is scheduled to face Arman Tsarukyan in the main event of RAF 11 on July 18.
