Jorge Masvidal Faces Six-Figure Covington Lawsuit Amid UFC Return Talks

Jorge Masvidal is juggling a civil lawsuit from Colby Covington while actively negotiating a return to the UFC, with a potential clash against Leon Edwards on his wish list.

Covington has filed a six-figure lawsuit against Masvidal over an attack outside a Miami Beach restaurant following their 2022 fight. Masvidal previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in the related criminal case. The lawsuit claims “bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, physical impairment, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment.” Covington is seeking damages in excess of $100,000.

Masvidal contrasted his long-running feud with Covington against how he views most of his opponents. “For the most part, I get along with everybody,” he said. “Everyone that I fought, it’s like I’m cool with them afterwards. If I see them, I share a meal with them. I’ll f*cking hang out, talk some shit. But just one rat-ass motherf*cker, it’s literally a rat. I shouldn’t even say his name because he’s already suing me. Colby Covington’s the only one I really never messed with like that.”

UFC president Dana White stated at UFC 327 that the promotion and Masvidal have been in talks about a comeback. Masvidal confirmed, saying, “We’re talking,” and added, “We’ve been talking for a minute. It’s just we haven’t landed [a deal].”

Open to fighting at middleweight or welterweight, Masvidal made his target clear at 170 pounds. “I’ll be honest with you, if they give me the Leon [Edwards] fight, I’ll get to [170 pounds] tomorrow,” he said. “I would like that fight. He doesn’t have nothing scheduled.”
