Jon Jones believes a path out of his UFC contract is within reach and is openly talking about life beyond the Octagon, including a potential clash with Francis Ngannou and a move into boxing.
Jones recently attended the Rousey vs. Carano event on a Saturday and watched Francis Ngannou defeat Philipe Lins by first-round knockout. He said he would like to get out of his UFC deal to fight Ngannou and made it clear he thinks that scenario is realistic.
“I don’t know, I think getting out of my UFC contract is very, very possible,” Jones said. “I need to find the right people, go through my channels, or just put more effort into it.”
Jones also outlined a strong interest in boxing and focusing on his punching skills. “I really wanted to box,” he said. “If I were to put all of my energy in my hands, combinations, and punching power, I think I really could surprise a lot of people. I would love to box. That would be a lot of fun.”
A little less than a year ago, Jones informed the UFC of his retirement and vacated the heavyweight title. He wanted to return for the UFC White House card, but UFC CEO Dana White stated he had no interest in having Jones on that event.
