Jon Jones has weighed in on Dustin Poirier’s recent arrest for public drunkenness, offering a message of support as the incident continues to draw attention.
Poirier was arrested by the Clayton County Sheriff's Office in Georgia and faces one count of public drunkenness. Police footage of the arrest showed him provoking a police officer to a fight and threatening to attack several airport employees.
Speaking about the situation, Jones said, "I hope that Dustin keeps his head high, gets back on his horse, and realizes that at the end of the day, news is news," adding, "Some people say there's no such thing as bad press. I disagree with that, but press is press, you know?" He continued, "The whole world is talking about him right now. He didn't hurt anybody. You know, he was drunk. We've all been drunk. Alcohol makes you do silly things. It's important for him to forgive himself and just keep moving forward. At the end of the day, no one really cares. No one really cares."
Jones, a former UFC dual-champion, has his own history of legal issues, including pleading guilty after driving under the influence and negligent use of a firearm in 2020. He was also accused in a criminal summons of fleeing the scene of an accident and leaving a half-clothed, intoxicated woman behind in February 2025, with the charges later dismissed.
Jones’ comments come after his longtime rival Daniel Cormier urged people to show empathy toward Poirier, who has said life after retirement has been a struggle.
