Jake Paul Details MVP’s MMA Debut, Says UFC Not ‘Nervous’

Jake Paul has laid out his vision for Most Valuable Promotions’ move into MMA, while downplaying any notion that the UFC sees the new venture as a threat.

Most Valuable Promotions’ inaugural MMA event is scheduled for May 16 on Netflix, headlined by Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. Nate Diaz, Francis Ngannou, and Junior Dos Santos are also scheduled to appear on the card.

“A lot of people think that I hate the UFC. I love what they do to this sport. I'm an MMA fan,” Paul said, adding, “I grew up watching the UFC and Ronda Rousey, the early days, and so I love what they've done, and I agree that it's the most prestigious.”

Paul, who has advocated for increased fighter pay and criticized the UFC for low payouts, said he believes the broader MMA scene could evolve. “But I think the whole landscape is going to start to change, and that's kind of just what I'm pointing out. If multiple people do it (leave the UFC), there's going to be this ecosystem that is created where there can be prestigious fights elsewhere.”

Asked about UFC president Dana White, Paul said, “I don't think (White is getting nervous). I think he's checked out,” later adding, “Bro is already a billionaire. He's just going and gambling. He's happy with his life, and I also think that everyone in my whole career underestimates me, and then I surpass expectations. So he probably doesn't think that me and Nakisa (Bidarian) are going to take over MMA in any way, shape or form, so I don't think he's nervous because of that.”
