Islam Makhachev has weighed in on Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return, as "The Notorious" is set to face Max Holloway in the UFC 329 headliner on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor will meet Holloway in a welterweight bout, a rematch of their 2013 featherweight clash that McGregor won. The fight marks McGregor’s first appearance since a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, in which he broke his leg.

Makhachev, who currently holds the UFC belt at welterweight, acknowledged McGregor’s star power but pointed to the challenge in front of him. "It's good, big name for our sport," Makhachev said, before adding, "But, he has a tough opponent. Max Holloway against Conor, I think Max can beat him."

McGregor enters UFC 329 as the sport’s biggest star and a former UFC dual champion, but Holloway is described as the more active fighter and has opened as a sizeable favorite over McGregor.
