Ibraheem Yazeed has been sentenced to life in prison in Alabama for the 2019 abduction and murder of Aniah Blanchard, the 19-year-old stepdaughter of former UFC fighter Walt Harris.

Yazeed was convicted of murder and felony murder and received two life sentences with the possibility of parole, to run concurrently. Authorities described it as the stiffest penalty possible based on his conviction, after prosecutors initially sought the death penalty before capital murder charges were reduced.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said, "Today, justice has been served," and added, "I am gratified that the court imposed the maximum allowable sentence for the senseless and brutal murder of Aniah Blanchard, life in prison. It is the sentence that the weight of this crime demanded, and one that Aniah’s family has long deserved." He continued, "My deepest sympathies remain with Aniah’s family and all who loved her. No verdict can undo their unimaginable loss, but my hope is that today’s outcome brings a measure of closure and allows them to begin the long journey toward healing."

Blanchard went missing in October 2019 and was later found dead in a wooded area in Macon County, Alabama. An autopsy confirmed she was killed by a gunshot wound.

Harris addressed the outcome directly, saying, "It was important to look him in the eyes and let him know he didn’t win and that we have the power," and, "I wanted him to know evil didn’t win."

Yazeed’s attorneys stated they plan to file an appeal.

In 2022, "Aniah’s Law" was passed in Alabama, allowing judges to deny bond to defendants charged with certain violent crimes.
