Henry Cejudo has laid out a clear blueprint for Conor McGregor ahead of his welterweight main event rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
McGregor is set to face Holloway for the second time, more than a decade after their first meeting at featherweight at UFC Fight Night 26 on Aug. 17, 2013. The UFC 329 bout will also mark McGregor’s first fight since his trilogy clash with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021 ended due to a gruesome injury.
Cejudo, a former two-division UFC champion, emphasized that body work will be crucial for McGregor over five rounds. “Conor McGregor has to attack the body. Not just because Max Holloway has the best gas tank in the UFC, but it's because he has to slow him down. If you let Max keep his pace for 25 minutes, Conor McGregor, you're in trouble!”
He also highlighted the importance of variety and timing against Holloway. “Max is one of the best fighters in the world at making reads. If you give him the same look over and over, he will start walking you down. So, you have to pick your shots and make this guy miss, then make him pay with that left hand.”
Cejudo added that McGregor must earn Holloway’s respect early. “Conor has to make Max respect his power early. Holloway is the best when he's marching forward – throwing volume and forcing you to fight him at his pace. Conor cannot allow that to happen. He has to land something big in the first couple of rounds that makes Max think twice before coming forward.”
