Gilbert Burns is wasting no time in his post-fight career, signing a deal with UFC BJJ less than a month after retiring from MMA.
The organization has not yet officially announced Burns' signing or his debut date, but the plan is for the former UFC contender to have his first UFC BJJ match in the bowl in the coming months.
Burns' final UFC appearance came in April, when he suffered a main event loss to Mike Malott at UFC Winnipeg in Canada.
UFC BJJ’s next event is set for May 21 at the Meta APEX, headlined by Mikey Musumeci vs. Kevin Dantzler and Cassia Moura vs. Bia Basilio.
After retirement, Burns planned to return to jiu-jitsu, work as an MMA manager, and run his own gym in the United States. Before transitioning to MMA in 2012, he was a successful jiu-jitsu competitor, winning IBJJF world titles in 2010 no-gi and 2011 gi. He went 15-10 in the UFC between 2014 and 2026, earning notable wins over Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson, and Jorge Masvidal.
