Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill is leaving 205 pounds behind and preparing for a run in the heavyweight division after a difficult recent stretch.
Hill announced the move after posting three straight losses at light heavyweight, noting that his body has been trending toward a bigger frame for some time. A timeline for his heavyweight debut has not yet been determined.
“I’ve entered my last three camps and the lowest was maybe 260 pounds,” Hill said. “This last camp, when I started, I was about maybe 265 pounds. That goes into that work. I cannot spend camp trying to make weight when I have to focus on improvement as well as strengthening in places that I’m weak with injury and things like that.”
The 35-year-old also addressed his own role in the transition. “I have to apologize to people that have supported me and have to be better,” Hill said. “I have to be better with how I take care of my body, how I work to improve and stay sharp with my body and with my skills. So I will be on that.”
