Edgar Chairez made a statement at UFC Fight Night 278, finishing Bruno Silva with a first-round submission in their flyweight clash at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Chairez hurt Silva early, knocking him down and opening a cut before taking the back and securing a rear-naked choke at the 4:13 mark of Round 1.
"This is pure Mexican boxing," Chairez said after the victory. "I'm going to put people to sleep. I'm going to do this to everybody. Maybe it will be enough for the belt."
The win extends the 30-year-old Chairez’s streak to three straight victories, pushing his professional record to 14-6 in MMA and 4-2 in the UFC at 125 pounds. Silva, who entered the bout with a 15-9-2 MMA mark and 5-6 in the UFC, was unable to withstand the early damage before tapping to the choke.
