Du Plessis’ first UFC title defense came against Adesanya, a UFC middleweight legend and former champion, and ended in the fourth round when Du Plessis secured a neck crank finish. The bout was part of UFC 305, where Du Plessis improved his MMA record to 23-3, including 9-1 in the UFC.
The win came after years of media exchanges between Du Plessis and Adesanya leading into their eventual meeting at UFC 305.
Next for Du Plessis is a five-round fight against former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. The matchup is scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 281 at 185 pounds at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
