Ming Shi capped Friday’s Road to UFC event in emphatic fashion, submitting Puja Tomar in the strawweight main event at Galaxy Arena.
Shi, a medical doctor, locked up an arm-triangle choke to finish Tomar at 3:12 of their bout. The win lifts Shi to 18-6 in MMA and 2-1 in the UFC, while Tomar drops to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the UFC, now riding a two-fight losing streak.
The victory adds another Road to UFC highlight for Shi, who previously won the series final with a head kick knockout of Xiaocan Feng in November 2024. She rebounded here after a unanimous decision loss to Bruna Brasil in her second UFC appearance in August.
Tomar, the first woman from India to compete in the UFC, came up short in her bid to get back in the win column.
Thursday’s Road to UFC card also produced a quick finish, as Rong Zhu stopped Victor Martinez by knockout in just 70 seconds. Zhu improves to 28-6 in MMA and 4-3 in the UFC.
Martinez missed weight by two pounds ahead of the bout and now holds a 13-7 MMA record with an 0-3 mark in the UFC.
