Diego Lima is publicly pushing for a rematch between Charles Oliveira and newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje following UFC Freedom 250.
Lima took to Instagram this past Sunday to call for a title unification bout after Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria in the main event of UFC Freedom 250, an event that took place on the South Lawn of the White House.
“What an amazing night, what an event, UFC is UFC, once again making history!,” Lima wrote, before laying out his case for Oliveira vs. Gaethje 2. “And now the time has come, the fight that makes the most sense at the moment, will surely be another best-selling success. Time for unification, a rematch – where (Dana White) may, for the first time in UFC history, put two different belts on a single champion. Two monsters of the sport, two category champs, two BMFs, two future Hall of Famers, but only one arm will be raised, only one will go home with two belts.”
Lima also referenced a viral line from a “controversial week,” quoting: “Something's missing here, where's my belt” and adding, “There are some accounts to be settled; the time has come! Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje 2. The unification.”
Oliveira and Gaethje first met at UFC 274 in 2022, where Oliveira dropped and submitted Gaethje in the first round. Oliveira missed weight for that bout, so the result did not count as a title defense.
