Dana White says Gable Steveson’s opponent for his UFC 329 debut in Las Vegas has not yet been finalized, despite the Olympic gold medalist being locked in for the card.
Steveson is scheduled to compete on July 11 during the UFC’s 14th annual International Fight Week, where he will make his first walk to the Octagon in what has been described as the "biggest debut on earth." The bout will be Steveson’s fourth professional MMA fight and his first in the UFC.
White made it clear the promotion is still deciding how high to aim with Steveson’s first matchup. "I don't know if we go after a top 15 guy. I say this to you guys all the time: The UFC jitters are real. I don't care how you've competed or where or what you've done. When you come here, it' a different level."
"Our matchmakers are the best in the business. We'll figure him out and get him the right fight. When I say that, I mean at what we think his level is, and what we think he's capable of," White added, later noting, "CM Punk fought here – we'll find somebody,"
Steveson enters UFC 329 with a 3-0 MMA record and a 0-0 mark in the UFC. He is currently training alongside Jon Jones ahead of his debut, after most recently earning a first-round TKO win over Hugo Lezama at MFL 3 in Mexico on Feb. 19.
