Dana White says he is in no rush to book Conor McGregor’s next fight after the former champion suffered an injury in the opening minutes of his rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas.
The UFC 329 main event was described as botched and left many fans disappointed, despite the event potentially recording the promotion’s highest gate of all time. McGregor’s return generated about $25 million in ticket sales and nearly 16 million U.S. viewers on Paramount+.
Asked about McGregor’s future, White responded, "Not even thinking about it," and later added, "Conor still has to have knee surgery and go through everything he’s going to have to go through. I understand he’s very unhappy with the way shit played out but you’re a human being, you’re older, you haven’t fought in five years and Father Time is undefeated."
McGregor has been lobbying for a trilogy fight with Holloway and is aiming to return to fulfill the last fight on his UFC contract, but White emphasized the uncertainty ahead. "So who the f—k knows what’s going to happen with Max over the next year and what’s going to happen with Conor over the next year?" he said.
White made it clear the UFC will only revisit McGregor’s future once his recovery is further along. "When Conor reaches out and says ‘I finished all my physical therapy, I’m in a good place, they told me I can train full time now,’ we’ll start thinking about what’s next."
