Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 main event rematch against Max Holloway ended abruptly after the former champion suffered a right knee injury in the opening round at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this past Saturday.
The injury occurred on the first kick McGregor threw in the fight, leading to a referee stoppage just 69 seconds into round one. McGregor has stated that he will undergo surgery to repair his knee.
On his 38th birthday, McGregor addressed fans in an Instagram video, saying “38, no hate! Just love!” before adding “We’ll be back.” He also said, “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen, let's go.”
McGregor, known as “The Notorious,” has a professional record of 22-7 in MMA and 10-5 in the UFC. Holloway holds a 28-9 MMA record and is 24-9 in the UFC. McGregor also used the Instagram post to thank people for birthday wishes and to promote his MAC Energy drink.
