Conor McGregor’s return at UFC 329 ended abruptly when he tore the ACL in his right knee during the main-event bout with Max Holloway at UFC Oklahoma City.
The fight was stopped just over a minute into the first round after McGregor’s leg gave out following a jumping switch kick, bringing a sudden end to the highly anticipated matchup. Fans had paid over $25 million to attend UFC 329.
Backstage, UFC executives confirmed the severity of the injury. When asked about the damage, Hunter Campbell responded, "ACL," and added, "And there’s another tear. There’s two." Dana White echoed the diagnosis, saying, "ACL," and later bluntly summed it up: "His knee’s f--ked up. He’s having knee surgery. That’s it,".
White made it clear that any future talk about McGregor will have to wait. "I mean, the Conor McGregor discussion isn’t even worth talking about. He’s got to have knee surgery. He’s going to have to go through physical therapy. It’s all going to take time. And then when the doctor says, ‘You can start hardcore training again,’ then we start talking about Conor McGregor again."
