Conor McGregor has finally broken down the origin of his famous "Notorious" nickname during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, as he gears up for his UFC return.

McGregor is scheduled to face Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas on July 11, in a 170-pound bout that will mark his first fight since breaking his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier five years ago.

Explaining how the moniker took shape, McGregor said, "It actually came because I had a habit of getting into trouble when I was younger a little bit and my coach had me saved in the phone as ‘Trouble,’ actually," before adding, "Now, I was only a young guy, but you know, I was just notorious for it. That’s it." He also connected the nickname to his walkout music: "I like Biggie as well, I like the music, and that was the walkout song and it just kind of gelled together over the years and it became the Notorious,".

McGregor kept things light with host Jimmy Fallon during the segment, reacting to the story with, "That’s not bad," and even pitching a tongue-in-cheek moniker for the comedian: "How about Jimmy ‘The Slow Jammer’ Fallon?’"

Ahead of his comeback fight, McGregor has been making media appearances to improve his public image after being involved in numerous lawsuits, including cases involving a fan's phone, an elderly man in a pub, and a civil suit in which he was found liable for sexual assault for an incident in Dublin in 2018.
